Property & Politics

Spring has sprung, but the upturn in the property market and traditional buoyancy that goes hand-and-hand with the September / October period will come a little later on this year. With a general election delivering the expected Winston Peters King / Queen maker role, there remains plenty of uncertainty until he decides which way to jump. Even then, there is a lot of conjecture over the shape of the outcome as the ideals of the centre right and left get muddled in the coalition negotiation process. As a result of this protracted process, we can expect winter’s slowed housing market to continue for a little longer yet!

But, if you’re keen to make a move in the property market that doesn't necessarily mean sitting tight is the best bet.

If you want to sell … now’s the time to spring clean. Clear things out, de-clutter, spruce up your property with a lick of paint, and make sure your garden is well groomed. Do whatever you can to make sure your property is ready to hit the market as soon as those springtime buyers fire into action.

If you’re looking to buy … now’s the time to get your ducks in a row. Make sure your finances are all sorted so there’s nothing holding you back and you get the pick of the bunch when the (now late) springtime properties hit the market. This is where we can help – so don’t hesitate to get in touch.
